The Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio troilus) is a common black swallowtailButterfly butterfly found in North America, also known as the Green-Clouded butterfly.It has two subspecies, Papilio troilus troilus and Papilio troilus ilioneus, the latter found mainly in the Florida peninsula. The spicebush swallowtail derives its name from its most common host plant, the Lindera.

If you find this little caterpillar you should know that it becomes a black swallowtail type butterfly. They flutter while hovering and fly¬† low to the ground. Just look how beautiful this Spicebush Swallowtail caterpillar is with it’s bright orange coloring and what looks like a large eye to fool you into thinking it is a snake.
