This image was taken south of Tennessee. Red and Black Striped Grasshoppers. This is a nymph stage of the Southeastern Lubber.

The above image is a Black Grasshopper with Red Stripes called a SouthEastern Lubber. What you are seeing is one of the Nymph stages. Grasshoppers are food for other creatures but they wouldn’t want to eat this one because it has toxic substances inside of its body. You can find out more here at Grasshoppers.
